That would be perfect actually. There is a lot of geometric angle possibilities for a game of pool. There are many more physics possibilities like the colliding of two solid objects and the transfer of motion. I would recommend what is called bank shots in pool where the que ball is hit off of the rubber walls off the table and bounced violently in the other direction. If you look at the table long ways imagine a large axis that is perpendicular to the upper wall of the table. If you were to hit the wall with the energy of motion running perpendicular to the wall you are aiming at the ball will bounce back with an angle of zero degrees hitting the tip of your pool stick. If you hit the wall at an angle of ten degrees from the imaginary axis it will bounce in the other diredtion for an additional 10 degrees making the angle of trajectory 20 degrees. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,_________________ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/ |\ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/ ,|,\ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/ ,,|,,\ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/ 10|10\ ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/ ,,,,,|.,. \ ,,,,,,,(BALL),,,,,,,,O,,,,,|,,,,,WHERE THE BALL IS GOING. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,/ ,,,,,,AXIS,,, \,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ....................(UP)............ (DOWN) If the the ball hits the wall at a 45 degree angle it will bounce from the wall at a 45 degree angle (just replace the tens above with 45.) making a total angle of 90 degrees. I'm not sure what level geometry you are in but you can also look into a chip shot where the que ball hits one of the sides of the target ball. It is related to the tangent angle of the target ball verses the trajectory angle of the que ball. if the que ball hits the very side of the target ball rather than straight on the target ball will move at approximatly a 90 degree angle versus the motion. ( the que ball is moving straight at the target ball but instead of hitting it dead on it just taps the side.) If the ball hits the right part of the target ball it will go at a 45 degree angle... In these examples the que ball is moving in parallel to the axis but isn't always hitting the target at the same spot... only if the que hits the spot perfectly where the tangent is perpendicular to the axis will the ball head parallel to the axis (or straight). The direction the target ball will move is related to the angle difference between the tangent of the area hit and the axis of motion of the que. |
